Eligibility
Can I donate?
Healthy adults aged 18–60, weighing at least 50 kg, with no recent serious illness. You should not have donated blood in the last 8 weeks.
If you have a history of hepatitis B or C you cannot donate. If your jaundice was non-infectious (e.g., neonatal) and screening tests are clear, you may be eligible — our staff will guide you after testing.
About one pint (roughly 500 ml) — a volume a healthy body replaces quickly. The donation itself takes only 10–15 minutes.
Plasma volume is restored within 24 hours; red cells are replaced within a few weeks. Most donors feel completely normal the same day after rest and fluids.
Every 8 weeks. Regular donation is safe and may even have health benefits, while saving up to three lives per donation.
Safety & Process
What to expect
Only the initial needle prick — a brief pinch. The rest of the donation is painless, and our trained staff make the process comfortable.
No. We use sterile, single-use disposable needles and bags for every donor, discarded safely after one use. There is zero risk of infection from donating.
Eat a proper meal, drink plenty of water, and sleep well the night before. Avoid donating on an empty stomach.
Avoid smoking for at least 2 hours before and 3 hours after donation to prevent dizziness.
Every unit is screened for blood group, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV and other transfusion-transmissible infections before it is used.
Whole blood and red cells can be stored for up to 35 days under controlled refrigeration. Component separation lets one donation help multiple patients.
